This kept happening to me. I'd see a cool family event in Munich on Instagram and save it. Then I'd go looking for the website, try to find the date, get pulled away by something, and forget all about it.
So I started working on a fix. This Weekend in Munich is a list of family events I find interesting, written up in English and updated every Wednesday.
How does the This Weekend in Munich list work?
Every event shows the details you need: date, time, price and age, plus a link to the organiser's own page so you can check the latest information.
Add to calendar: tap "Add to calendar" and the event is in your week, instead of sitting forgotten in your saved posts.
Filters: narrow the list to indoor (a rain plan), outdoor, free events, or events in English.
Build a plan: tap the heart on anything you like to start your weekend plan, or hit "Surprise me" if you can't decide.
Same page every week: bookmark it and check back on Wednesdays. It's always the same address.
It's new, so tell me what you think. There's a feedback button at the top of the page.
What are the best cheap family things to do in Munich every weekend?
Some of the best weekend plans don't depend on a one-off event. A few things you can count on:
β¬1 museum Sundays: on Sundays many of Munich's state museums charge just β¬1, including the Alte Pinakothek, Pinakothek der Moderne, Museum Brandhorst, the Egyptian Museum, the Glyptothek and the Bavarian National Museum. Special exhibitions can still cost extra.
Free for under 18s: many of the same museums are free for children and teenagers any day of the week, which makes a Sunday visit very cheap for a family.
Opening hours and closures change, so check each museum's own website before you go. The city's page on free and discounted museum entry keeps the current list.
